Cymatics is the study of wave phenomena and vibration. The term (Kymatiks in German), was adapted from the Greek word for wave, ta Kyma, in the1960s by Swiss medical doctor and natural scientist, Hans Jenny (1904-1972). What sounds like a very dry scientific study is truly a marvel to behold, and watching just a few seconds of Jenny’s experiments animating inert powders, pastes and liquids with audible sound frequencies, can shed much light on the mysteries of creation.

Practical Application:

Cymatics shows how vibrations interact to create the world we experience 'out there,' while illuminating hidden principles that underlie all natural processes. Understanding these principles offers insights into the dynamics of life in the dense, physical world of matter, form and function, but also in the subjective ways in which we perceive ourselves. Once you've objectively observed how a stable structure (say, a formation in fine powder on a vibrating steel plate), can dissolve into chaos, but then in just a matter of seconds, re-configure itself into a more complex and finely-ordered form, you might just be able to view your own tumultuous circumstances a bit more objectively (and with far less apprehension!) as a purposefully evolving process leading toward greater personal coherency and equanimity.

A Brief Overview of Cymatics

Cymatics, the study of wave phenomena, is a science pioneered by Swiss medical doctor and natural scientist, Hans Jenny (1904-1972). For 14 years he conducted experiments animating inert powders, pastes, and liquids into life-like, flowing forms, which mirrored patterns found throughout nature, art and architecture. What's more, all of these patterns were created using simple sine wave vibrations (pure tones) within the audible range. So what you see is a physical representation of vibration, or how sound manifests into form through the medium of various materials.

Dr. Jenny's methodology was meticulous, well doumented, and totally repeatable. His fascinating body of work offers profound insights into both the physical sciences and esoteric philosophies. It illustrates the very principles which inspired the ancient Greek philosophers Heraclitus, Pythagoras and Plato, on down to Giordano Bruno and Johannes Kepler, the fathers of modern astronomy. "In the beginning was the word..." takes on a whole new meaning while looking at these experiments!

These cymatic images are truly awe-inspiring, not only for their visual beauty in portraying the inherent responsiveness of matter to sound, but also because they inspire a deep recognition that we, too, are part and parcel of this same complex and intricate vibrational matrix.

Prepare to expand the way you look at your world. As the ancient Hindu scriptures stated: Nada Brahma, the world is Sound!

Cymatics: A Study of Wave Phenomena by Hans Jenny - Vols. I and II is back in print by popular demand! For decades, students of Sacred Geometry, Mandalas, New Science, Metaphysics, Sound Healing and even Crop Circles have coveted these hard-to-find volumes. This new release, comprehensive edition portrays fascinating experiments using audible sound to excite powders, pastes and liquids into life-like, flowing forms.

Cymatics Video: The stunning array of figures and flowing patterns seen in these programs portray actual physical phenomena - not computer simulations - showing the effect of sound over matter!
